When Dr. Curt started hunting at age seven, he used a Remington shotgun with Browning patents. That was 73 years ago—and it launched a lifelong love affair with both hunting and Browning firearms.
"I've owned and traded up through about 30 Browning guns over the years," says Dr. Curt, a longtime chiropractor, father to three, and grandfather to 16. "Now I'm starting to slide some of my fancier guns off to my boys."
Those "fancier guns" include two hand-engraved Browning A-5 50th Anniversary shotguns from 1985, which he bought from a renowned wildlife artist. But before he passed them on to his sons, he made sure they’d be properly protected in a Browning Safe.
"I always thought I was invincible.”
A hard lesson about gun security
Dr. Curt came to appreciate the value of a good safe years ago, and he learned it the hard way.
"I always thought I was invincible," he says. "I thought no one would ever steal from me." Which is why, for years, he stored his guns under his bed.
Then one day, thieves broke into his brother's farmhouse and stole two irreplaceable firearms that had belonged to their father.
"That's how I got a gun safe," says Dr. Curt.
Three generations of Browning Safes
His first Browning Safe was a used Pro Steel 48-gun model he found through a classified ad in the late 1970s. It was so old it wasn’t even fire-rated, but it protected his collection for decades—and it's still protecting his youngest son's guns today.
"The name Browning really means a lot. To any sportsman, Browning is the epitome of equipment."
These days, Dr. Curt has two Browning Safes in his basement, including a Primal model he bought recently. His oldest son has a Browning Safe too.
"When it comes to fit and finish, you're never going to find anything else like a Browning," says Dr. Curt. "Everything fits right, and everything looks right. It's got good lines to it. All the latches work well. The shelves are easy to get in and out wherever you want them.
"I like that you can change the shelving.”
Dr. Curt says he particularly appreciates how customizable the interior of a Browning Safe is—especially because some of his guns need extra room, like his three Browning 10-gauge pumps with extra-long barrels.
"I like the configuration. I like that you can change the shelving," he says.
"A family legacy”
Now 80 years old, Dr. Curt hasn't missed a hunting season in 75 years. These days he primarily hunts pheasant with his sons, son-in-law, and five grandsons. And out of 16 grandchildren, all but one loves to hunt.
Why does he trust a Browning Safe to protect his legacy collection until it's time to pass it on to the next generation?
"The name Browning really means a lot," says Dr. Curt. "To any sportsman, Browning is the epitome of equipment."
